About the Deck

The Old Style Lenormand is a faithful restoration of late-19th-century Lenormand imagery, produced by the Czech-Austrian publisher Königsfurt-Urania. Where most modern decks reinterpret the cards in fresh artwork, Old Style does the opposite: it returns to the actual lithographs that working European readers used in the 1880s and 1890s, cleans them up for modern printing, and offers them back as a quietly authoritative working deck.

The result reads as both archival and usable — a deck for readers who want their cards to look like the cards their teachers' teachers used.

The Artwork

Soft chromolithographic colours, a slightly aged off-white background, and the small detailed scenes typical of Victorian-era cartomancy decks. Each card carries its number, its inset playing card, and the symbol — the Rider on his horse, the Ship on its waves, the Mountain in its scenery — rendered in the unmistakable style of late-19th-century European print culture.

The verses some traditional Lenormand decks include on the cards are present here too, in their original German on most editions.

Who It's For

Readers who want the deck as it actually appeared at the height of the European Lenormand tradition. The Old Style sits alongside the Blue Owl as a leading traditional choice, and the two are often compared — the Blue Owl is more folk-art, the Old Style more lithograph-faithful. Both teach the same system; the choice between them is aesthetic.

The 36 Cards

Strictly the traditional 36 in their classical numbering and playing-card associations. No extras, no alternative variants — the deck is conservative on purpose.
