About the Deck

The Steampunk Lenormand by Caitlín Matthews and Wil Kinghan re-imagines the 36 traditional symbols through a Victorian-mechanical-fantasy lens. Caitlín Matthews is one of the most respected English-language Lenormand teachers — author of The Complete Lenormand Oracle Handbook — and the deck is the visual companion to her substantial body of teaching work.

Steampunk as a setting fits Lenormand surprisingly well: the Victorian register matches the period the modern Lenormand tradition crystallised in, and the mechanical-fantastical layer adds visual interest without disrupting the underlying symbolic vocabulary.

The Artwork

Wil Kinghan paints in warm tones with a strong sense of detail — clockwork mechanisms, brass fittings, period costuming, and the slightly fantastical edges typical of the steampunk genre. The Rider rides a clockwork horse; the Ship is a steam-driven vessel; the Tower is industrial Victorian rather than ecclesiastical. Each card carries the traditional number and playing-card inset, preserved in period-appropriate typography.

Who It's For

Readers drawn to Victorian-fantastical aesthetics and especially readers studying with Caitlín Matthews's books or courses — the deck is designed as the visual companion to her teaching, with card meanings and imagery aligned to her interpretive approach.

It's also a good crossover deck for readers coming from steampunk-themed tarot decks (Steampunk Tarot, Victorian Steampunk Tarot, etc.) who want a Lenormand in the same visual world.

The 36 Cards

Standard 36 in classical numbering. The Matthews/Kinghan companion book is a substantial work in its own right and includes Matthews's full reading methodology alongside the deck.
